ITINERARY

Day 1: Saturday, June 21, 2008. Depart Newark, NJ. .

Day 2: Sunday, June 22, 2008. Arrive in Tel Aviv. Transfer to Jerusalem and the Haas Promenade. We will discuss why God chose Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and Abraham offering up Isaac on Mount Moriah. In the afternoon, there will be an orientation walk of the Christian Quarter. Our entire stay will be at the Knight’s Palace/Gloria Hotel in the Christian Quarter of the Old City (near New Gate). Evening Lecture: Temple Mount Sifting Project.

Day 3: Monday, June 23, 2008. Visit Avigad’s Wall, the First Temple Model, and the Temple Mount. Walk to Tzurim Valley National Park and spend the rest of the day sifting. Evening lecture: Topography and Overview of the History of Jerusalem, Worship in Solomon’s Temple.

Day 4: Tuesday, June 24, 2008. Sift in the morning and then an afternoon tour of the Temple Institute. Evening Lecture: Tenth Century BC Jerusalem.

Day 5: Wednesday, June 25, 2008 Visit the Parking Lot excavation at the Dung Gate and tour the City of David. Sift for the rest of the day. Evening Lecture: Iron Age Water System of Jerusalem.

Day 6: Thursday, June 26, 2008 Sift in the morning and then an afternoon tour of the Water Systems of Jerusalem. Warren’s Shaft, Gihon Spring, walk through Hezekiah’s Tunnel and visit the Pool of Siloam. Evening Lecture: Expansion and Fall of Jerusalem at the End of the Iron Age.

Day 7: Friday, June 27, 2008 Sift until noon. An afternoon tour of the Iron Age Necropolis of Jerusalem, Garden Tomb and Ecole Biblique.

Day 8: Saturday, June 28, 2008 Shephelah Field Trip. Nebi Samuel, Beth Horon Ridge Route, Beth Shemesh, Azekiah, Elah Valley, Cave of Adullam, Tel Zayit, Lachish, and Gezer. Theme: Judean Worship in Opposition to the Solomonic Temple and Davidic Psalms as he Fled from Saul.

Day 9: Sunday, June 29, 2008 Worship service, rest of the morning free. Afternoon tour of the Skirball Museum, Ketef Hinnom, and the Protestant cemetery on Mt. Zion. Evening lecture on the the Samaritan Temple on Mount Gerizim.

Day 10: Monday, June 30, 2008 Sift in the morning. Afternoon tour of the Israel Museum and the Second Temple Model and Shirne of the Book. Evening Program: Harp concert with psalms in Hebrew.

Day 11: Tuesday, July 1, 2008 In the morning, a tour of the Western Wall Tunnel and Pool of Bethesda, then sift in the afternoon. Evening lecture on Herod’s Temple and Tomb.

Day 12: Wednesday, July 2, 2008 Sift in the morning and part of the afternoon. Afternoon tour of the Southern Wall Excavations. Evening lecture: Jesus in the Temple.

Day 13: Thursday, July 3, 2008 A morning walk to St. John Mark’s House, the Burnt House and Herodian Quarter. Sift for the rest of the morning and afternoon. Evening Lecture: Temple Mount Cisterns, Solomon’s Stables and Burial Shrouds.

Day 14: Friday, July 4, 2008 Sift in the morning. In the afternoon, a walk down the Mount of Olives, visiting Dominus Flavets, Gethsemane, Church of all Nations and the Tomb of Absalom and Ben Hazir.

Day 15: Saturday, July 5, 2008 Dead Sea Field Trip. Masada, Ein Gedi and Qumran. Theme: Davidic Psalms in the Judean Desert. In the evening we will have a farewell dinner at the Knight’s Palace with roast lamb, rice and all the trimmings.

Day 16: Sunday, July 6, 2008 Worship service. Rest of the day free. Evening departure and arrival in the USA the next morning, Monday, July 7, 2008.

Total cost for an unforgettable 15 days in the Holy Land is $2995, double occupancy. Single rooms are available at an additional cost of $400 per person.

- Solid Biblical teaching with lectures and interpretation by ABR staff
- Evening Lectures by various professional Israeli Archaeologists

Objectives: By the time the “sifters” leave Jerusalem, they will have a good grasp of the history and topography of Biblical Jerusalem. They will also understand the importance of the Temple Mount in ancient worship as well as the modern political ramifications of the site.

There will be evening lectures on subjects relating to Jerusalem and the Temple Mount by some of the leading Israeli archaeologists.

We will be sifting the debris from the Temple Mount Monday to Friday for two weeks. Each day will have a field study, either in the morning, before sifting, or in the afternoon, after sifting. The project normally works from 8 AM to 4 PM. We will do our study walk, either before the sifting and arrive by 10 AM and sift until 4 PM, or do the studies walk at the end of the day and leave by 2 PM.

We will stay at the Knight’s Palace/Gloria Hotel in the Christian Quarter of the Old City. This hotel is run by Christian Arabs and is very strategically located by the New Gate.

The participants will be given a syllabus before the trip of articles and notes concerning the sites we will visit and the topics that will be discussed by various Israeli archaeologists.

NOTE: To be able to fully participate in all the activities planned for this tour, you should be physically fit, as there will be a significant amount of walking.
